Students will gain an understanding of the history and uses of computers by exploring one of the world’s most extensive holdings of computer artifacts |

“Data communication and the Internet” PolkaSpots – London WiFi provider London
Students learn about computer networks, their uses, and the security required. Students will also conduct a survey of users in a Pret to determine customer opinions of wireless networking. |

Week 3 July 7 |
“Software development for problem solving – history of ciphers” Bletchley Park
Students will explore the development of early computers (1940s) used for breaking encryption used in WWII. Students will also learn about the early developments in AI. |

Week 4 July 14 |
“Information systems design and development – databases” Linnean Society Digital Project, UCL Computer Center, Burlington House, Piccadilly
Students will learn about one of the largest databases; how it was built and now disseminated. Students will also conduct a survey of users in a Pret to determine customer opinions of computers in society. |
